I am Lance Brown,the skier in this photo and the owner of Spray Lines.....I competed for years in 3 events, and competed in Boys Slalom and Mens Slalom in 6 U.S. National Championships, with all 6 finishes in the top 13. I was also ranked #39 in the world in slalom. I worked for Jobe Skis for 3 years, making trick and jump skis for World class skiers and also worked as a ski instructor for World Overall Champion Mike Suyderhoud at his International Water Ski School and Training camp on Lake Shasta, California. I have won over 150 trophies and set a Pacific Northwest slalom record which stood for 6 years. (See: Owner's profile)

On Oct.1,1986 we signed a contract as an outside vendor to build Tournament ropes and handles for Connelly Skis. From 1986 to 1999 we built thousands of tournament lines for Connelly. From 2004 to 2008 we also provided 80% of Masterline's production of tournament
8 and 10 loop ropes.

At one time, all of my family was involved. Now I make all the ropes myself, along with my wife

Nobody has more experience building tournament ropes. I began making ropes in 1976 for my own training, because the ropes on the market were not accurate enough even for training. There are many factors that must be dealt with in making a quality rope, and accurately figuring the amount a rope will stretch is what makes all the difference. Tying each loop individually as we do makes the margin of error go down considerably. As a skier, I understand what needs to be done to make a rope that doesn't stretch too much or not enough. I have skied for years at the extreme short line lengths in competition that demand absolute quality and accuracy, and I make all my lines to record capability tolerances as a result. 40 years later, only a few are made in the US. Most rope makers don't ski in competition, and many have never skied at all! Sadly, the majority of ropes sold today are made in China by people who don't ski,have no concept of what the product is used for, and the quality is nonexistent.

I provide personal service to every skier, and spend the winter building inventory for summer. I just returned from the 2016 Regional and National Water Ski Championships, with many skiers telling me their story of having to wait weeks or even months for products from big companies like Masterline once summer comes. I have been skiing & sponsoring tournaments since 1970. I learned a lot about ropes, and how to make them accurate. You must put just enough stretch into a rope to absorb "shock" in extreme short line slalom competition, yet be stiff enough to get the acceleration to the next buoy. There is a lot that goes into making a rope "just right". Unbelievably, the majority of ropes built today are made by workers in foreign countries, who don’t even know what the product is, or what it is used for.
